Adidas Copa Mundial

November 25, 2008

Designers are always talking about timeless design. I wanted to highlight one of the most timeless in my book. yeah, yeah, I want an Eames chair too. The Copa was introduced by adidas in 1979 and has been selling non-stop ever since with only the slightest modifications – essentially unchanged. When I was in high school and then on to college, the Copa was the shoe. two sizes too small, the kangaro leather would mold to your feet like a glove. when design connects to memory, and connects generations, it becomes something else all together. Maradonna, Platini, Beckenbauer all wore them. At the risk of revealing how much of a dork/jock/nerd I am – I smell grass when I see these shoes. for real. just like you could tell when someone showed up to the pitch with white shoes he was going to be a hack, you know the guy wearing Copas is to be repected – if not for skills, than for his good taste. blue boots are for tools – sorry.

Playland sounds like it was a little shady fun, but if they offered tasty treats like “it”…holy crap. flavors “releasing” slowly as it melts!?
